The Sunday Swarm Continues…

26 years is a long time. That is how long The Hornets Scooter Club of Long Island has existed. It was 1999 and I had my first scooter, A souped up 50cc. It may have been fast but riding it to NYC to meet up with the other scooterists was a bit far. I did it a few time but the writing was on the wall. Long Island needed it’s own Scooter Club. We started meeting on Friday night at The Bellmore Train Station Car Show. Soon however we switched to Sundays to take advantage of less traffic and the more time, meeting in the morning would afford us. The clibs in the city met on Sunday as well, so it seemed like the thing to do. Running a Scooter Club has not been easy. In fact it has been more trouble than not, but not this past Sunday 7/12/26. We had a great meet up at our new HQ in Commack, The Bagel Basket Cafe on Commack Road, right off the LIE exit 52. We moved further east to make easier for all of LI to meet us, not just those in Nassau County. It is a big Island with a lot of territory. We cant please everyone but everyone seems happy with this new spot. 6 of us met up for a breakfast of great Bagels. Old faces & new showed up & it was great to see them all. Attendance has been down lately as we have been transitioning to a new spot. “You can not make an omelet without breaking some eggs” is what Bugs Bunny says. You can not please everyone.

Our destination was Ashoroken/Eatons Neck/Hobarts Beach. We have been going way up there for many years but have not been there in a long time. We went up Town Line Road, Bread & Cheese Hollow Road and up into Northport. As always we made a few wrong turn, which always makes the ride interesting. It is always a group effort as we winded our ways around the twisties and hills of the area. We visited many local spots including Crab Meadow Beach & the Northport Stacks. We made it up to Hobarts Beach which is the Northernest point on Long Island and it is beautiful. So much so, that one of our members stayed there and took a swim! It was a great day and great to see some new faces and old that still want to, Scoot On… MM
